So I'm on a diet. As with most of my diets, it's because I'm a raging LARPer, and want to look *fabulous* in my costuming.

When you undertake a project like this, do you run stats and keep records like you're minmaxing a character sheet? I find it comforting to obsessively number crunch my way towards progress.

(Incidentally, on sparkpeople.com, we have a group called hawtgamers. My user name is manywaters, same as LJ if you're interested.)

I find that I always *want* to do nifty tracking spreadsheets and stuff, and yet I always seem to come up short in the execution. I envied my dad, who for many months kept a spreadsheet of his daily treadmill runs, which totaled his weekly, monthly, and annual progress in miles run, calories burned, etc.

Here's something nifty: a blog post from a guy named Jeremy Zawodny. Both his spreadsheet, and the link to the Hacker's Diet are useful, and the latter is chock-full of information.

I still have a goal to get a really good gym workout spreadsheet going. I feel like I do soooo much better if I can really see how much progress I've made. :)

I personally use the exponentially smoothed moving average from the Hacker's Diet. Keeps me from being to disappointed with a particular day's weight.

It boils down to: today's average is yesterday's average + 0.1 times (today's weight minus yesterday's average).

The 0.1 is suggested in the Hacker's Diet and seems to work well smoothing out day to day variance as well as easy to calculate, even by hand.

Yay LARPers!

I'm trying to get better, and I keep hearing about sparkpeople... I should really check that out.
